Name: "David Bates: Selected Works from Texas Collections"
    Date: June 24, 2018 - September 9, 2018
    Event Description:
“The most successful Dallas artist ever” and a mainstay of the Tyler Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection is the focus of the TMA’s major summer exhibition, "David Bates: Selected Works from Texas Collections," open to the public Sunday, June 24 through Sept. 9 at the TMA, 1300 S. Mahon Ave. on the Tyler Junior College main campus. Organized by the TMA, the exhibition features 30 works surveying the prolific career of Bates, one of the most versatile and widely collected contemporary Texas artists. Spanning from 1982 to 2016, works in the show highlight several of Bates’ most celebrated series and range across a wide array of media including oil painting, lithographs, woodcuts, screenprints and bronze sculpture. The selected works in the exhibition are drawn from numerous public and private collections throughout the state, including the TMA’s Permanent Collection. Bates’ work has been widely exhibited throughout the U.S. and is featured in such prominent public collections as The Phillips Collection, San Francisco Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. General exhibition admission is $6 for adults and $4 for seniors. TMA members, students, TJC faculty/staff and City of Tyler employees are admitted free. Support for "David Bates" is provided by Collectors’ Circle Platinum Sponsor The Byars Foundation. Regular TMA hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday (closed Mondays and major holidays).
